The author, Ed Drury, is a native Staten Islander who has been involved in aviation since he flew with his father at the ripe old age of 8 months. He took his first flying lesson on his 14th birthday at Staten Island Airport. After a stint in the United States Air force in Germany, he has acquired over 5000 hours of civilian flight time and holds a multi-engine instrument license, This interest in aviation along with a love of history led to the research that culminated in "Staten Island, The Other Cradle of Aviation." He owns and flies a twin Cessna today.
